这些服务可能位于你所在国家/地区之外。当你启用相应功能时,相关文本会按该服务的隐私政策处理。我们无法控制第三方的数据保留、跨境传输或再共享行为。

5. API Key 与凭据

  • AI、翻译、Azure/OpenAI TTS 的 API Key 通过 Electron safeStorage(Windows 上由 DPAPI 支持)加密后保存在本机 secure.bin。

Microsoft Store 版卸载时会删除应用容器内的数据。卸载前请先导出需要保留的生词本/标注。

7. 安全

  • 渲染层启用 contextIsolation、sandbox,关闭 nodeIntegration。
  • 网络请求集中在主进程,渲染层不直接出网。
  • API Key 使用操作系统级加密存储。
  • 自定义协议只读取应用登记过的本地资源。
  • 但请注意:任何软件都无法保证绝对安全;请保持 Windows 与浏览器内核更新,不要导入来源不可信的词典或电子书。

8. 儿童

本应用不是面向 13 岁以下儿童设计的产品,我们不会有意收集儿童的个人信息。由于你可以导入任意书籍并使用第三方 AI 服务,请自行确保内容适合使用者年龄。

11. 联系我们

Desktop Reader Plus (“the App”) is a Windows desktop reader provided by voidbytes (“we”, “us”). This policy explains how the App handles your information.

In one sentence: your library, reading progress, highlights, vocabulary, and settings stay on your PC by default. The App has no account system, no ads, and no telemetry. Text leaves your device only when you actively use online dictionaries, online translation, cloud text-to-speech, AI explanations, or WebDAV sync.

1. Who we are

  • Developer: voidbytes (individual developer)
  • Contact: support@voidbytes.com
  • Support: support@voidbytes.com
  • Website: https://drp.voidbytes.com

2. Data stored locally

Stored under your user profile (typically %APPDATA%\desktop-reader\ for the installer build, or the app container for the Microsoft Store build):

Data Content Leaves device
library.db Book metadata, reading position, bookmarks, highlights, vocabulary, reading stats, settings No (unless you enable WebDAV sync)
Book files Books you import or open (some formats keep a copy/index) No
covers/ Cover thumbnails No
dictionaries/ MDict / StarDict dictionaries you import No
secure.bin API keys encrypted with OS-level safeStorage No
resources/dict/ Built-in ECDICT offline dictionary No
Logs Standard output only, not persisted; release builds omit debug logging No

We do not collect your name, email, phone number, location, device identifiers, advertising ID, crash dumps, usage analytics, or telemetry.

3. When the App connects to the network

Online features are off by default. A request is made only when you enable a feature in Settings or actively trigger an action.

Feature Data sent Recipient How to disable
Online dictionary The word or phrase you look up Dictionary sources you enable (see §4) Settings → Lookup & dictionaries
Selection translation Selected text, language pair, necessary context The translation service you configure Settings → Translation
AI explain / translate / summarize Selected text, surrounding context, book/chapter title if available, your prompt The OpenAI-compatible service you configure Settings → AI
Cloud TTS Text to be read, language, voice, speed/pitch OpenAI TTS / Azure Speech (your choice) Settings → Read aloud → System voice
WebDAV sync Book metadata, progress, bookmarks, highlights, vocabulary, settings; not the book files themselves The WebDAV server you enter Settings → Network & sync
OPDS catalog Catalog URL, your search terms The OPDS server you add Remove the catalog
External links The URL you click Your default browser Do not click

The App never uploads your library or reading content in the background.

4. Third-party services

You decide which sources are enabled. Their own privacy policies apply.

Dictionaries: dictionaryapi.dev, Wiktionary, Datamuse, Wordnik, Longman, Cambridge, Collins, Merriam-Webster, Oxford Learner’s Dictionaries, Youdao, Bing Dictionary, Zdic, Vocabulary.com.

Translation: DeepL, Youdao Zhiyun, Baidu Translate, Caiyun, NiuTrans, Google Translate (keyless fallback endpoint), MyMemory (keyless fallback endpoint), DeepLX, and any OpenAI-compatible service you configure.

Speech: Microsoft Edge online speech (keyless, experimental, non-public endpoint), Azure Speech, OpenAI TTS, Windows system voices (local).

Sync/catalogs: the WebDAV server and OPDS catalogs you add.

These services may be located outside your country. When you enable a feature, the relevant text is processed under that service’s privacy policy. We do not control third-party retention, cross-border transfer, or onward sharing.

5. API keys and credentials

  • API keys for AI, translation, and cloud TTS are encrypted with Electron safeStorage (backed by Windows DPAPI) and stored locally in secure.bin.
  • If OS-level encryption is unavailable, the App refuses to store the key and tells you secure storage is unavailable .
  • Keys are never returned to the renderer in plaintext, never written to logs, and never uploaded to us (we operate no server).
  • WebDAV credentials are stored locally. Use a dedicated account/app password and HTTPS only.

6. Retention and deletion

  • Local data is under your control.
  • Delete a book: Library → right-click → Delete.
  • Delete all data: quit the App, then delete %APPDATA%\desktop-reader\ (or the app container equivalent for the Store build).
  • Clear API keys: Settings → the relevant provider → Clear.
  • Clear sync settings: Settings → Network & sync → Clear.
  • For data already received by a third party, contact that party; we cannot delete it on your behalf.

Uninstalling the Microsoft Store build removes data inside the app container. Export your vocabulary/highlights before uninstalling.

7. Security

  • The renderer uses contextIsolation and sandbox, with nodeIntegration disabled.
  • Network access is centralized in the main process.
  • API keys use OS-level encrypted storage.
  • Custom protocols only serve resources registered by the App.
  • No software is perfectly secure. Keep Windows updated and avoid importing untrusted dictionaries or books.

8. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Because you can import any book and use third-party AI services, you are responsible for ensuring content is appropriate for the user.

9. Your rights

You can view, export, modify, or delete your data locally (see §6). If you believe we hold your personal information (for example, an email you sent us), contact support@voidbytes.com to request access, correction, or deletion. We will respond within a reasonable period.

10. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be noted in the App (About → Privacy) or in the Store release notes, and the date above will be updated. Continued use means you accept the updated policy.
